Day 15, 3rd September Stavanger Norway
We decided that we wanted to go on a cruise up Lyseffjord its 42 klms long and at its deepest part 422 meters, reported to be one of the prettiest fjords in Norway. So once again up early and off the ship so we could buy our tickets as there was only 1 boat available the other one had been pre booked. We were very lucky and got tickets on the first cruise as it’s a 3-hour tour and we wanted to be on the first one, it sold out in a very short period as did the second cruise. The fjord is beautiful with towering cliff faces, little remote valleys where people live and spectacular waterfalls. It’s also where you can view Pulpit Rock also known as Prekestolen (Tom Cruise clings to the side of this in Mission Impossible) this steep cliff rises 604 meters above the fjord and has a flat top approx. 25 by 25 meters it takes about 2 hours to hike and is the most hiked mountain in Norway. We also had a stop to visit and drop off some feed to 3 wild goats who greet the boat every day. Once back we had a little look around the dock which has some very pretty little shops, then headed back to the ship for a late lunch, after which Pete decided to go and explore a little more of the town, I figured the streets were cobblestone and some quite steep so decided it was better to stay onboard, and after seeing Petes pics I’m glad I did still a lot more places to visit so need to be sensible about where I walk. Julie also stayed on board as she felt like she was getting a cold.
