Day 27, 17th September Rome to Genoa
After an early and quick breakfast it was time to disembark. We had no problems with disembarkation as usual with HAL it ran extremely smoothly, we were off the ship and collected our luggage within 10 mins then outside and on the bus to take us to the airport to pick up our hire car. After getting our car which is a nearly brand new Peugeot station wagon lots of room and comfy we headed for the Leaning Tower of Pisa, our third visit but Julies first. Julie really enjoyed seeing it and was quite impressed as were we no matter how many times you see it, was quite warm and lots of people. From here we headed to Genoa via Riomaggiore one of the Cinque Terre villages, was a beautiful drive into it, they have put restrications in place so makes it hard to see and you can’t take a car down in to the village anymore. As we didn’t have a lot of time and we had been there before Pete and Julie both decided to walk down to have a look it was a very steep walk. From there it was off to Rapallo again we have been there but it has changed, its extremely busy and lots of one way streets making it hard to make it to the seaside but we did eventually. Had a look around took some pictures then we headed off to Genoa. On the drive we passed so many villages up in the hills took some pics from the car as we were driving not great quality. Once we got to Genoa we had lots of fun finding our accommodation and when we did it was quite late and no one was there as it was an apartment, they sent us a whatsapp message to tell us where the key was. We put our cases in and headed out for dinner by this time it was 10pm and with so many one way streets it took awhile to find somewhere but we did then it was time to figure out where to park the car, as we were told to park on the street wherever you can find a spot easier said than done. After Pete drove around a few streets surrounding our street without luck he eventually parked it outside a parking garage and left a note with his contact details if they needed him.
They definitely have lots of tolls we spent 35.50 Euros today just on
tolls.
