Image
Arrived in Zagreb and before finding somewhere to stay headed for Lotrscak Tower which means thieves bell it’s from the 13 th century and every day at midday they fire a cannon which all the churches in the city use to synchronize their bells we got there in time and so glad we did but OMG they said it was loud when they shot the cannon and they weren’t joking, then all the bells in the city started peeling which was nice but very noisy. We had a bit of trouble finding somewhere to stay lots of the hotels we wouldn’t have let an animal stay in but eventually we found one and when out for a look around. Zagreb is the capital of Croatia and dates back to the 2 nd century AD, its upper town is beautiful full of cobblestone streets, old churches, palaces and towers. The next morning before leaving we went back to have a look at St Marks Church which has a 13 th century roof comprised of very colourful tiles that make up the cities coat of arms, also took a ride on the funicular rai...

Day 33, & 34 23rd & 24th September Budapest to Zagreb

Found a nice hotel on the Pest side next to the Danube river which made it easy to get to both sides Buda and Pest to see all the sites, as it was late we asked the guy at reception where was a good place for dinner, with the hassle of all the one way streets it took a while but we finally came to a lovely restaurant and had a yummy dinner and a few drinks before heading back to bed. Next day we started off by going to look at the Hungarian Parliament Building which is the second largest in the world and quite amazing they started building in 1885 and finished in 1902 it has 4 floors, 691 rooms, 10 courtyards and 12.5 miles of stairs to look inside you need to purchase a ticket and as we still had so much to see decided to keep moving. From here we went to Buda Castle which is he historical palace and castle for Hungarian Kings since 1265, with most of the site today being built between 1749 and 1769. We parked the car and took the lift from the street up to the castle complex, we...

Arrived in Vienna and booked into our hotel then went for a walk to a local restaurant for a lovely dinner, along the way in the distance we could see a very old Ferris wheel with carriages that appeared to be old trams. Got up early to start exploring first place we went to was St Peter’s (Peterskirche) an 18 th century  baroque church and we were able to go inside to have a look it was stunning. Pete wasn’t surprised as he said there are so many places named for me and of course they will all be wonderful what would you expect. After leaving there we came across St Stephen’s Cathedral OMG now Pete and Steve have amazing churches, it’s a medieval roman catholic church that was completed in 1578 and has 22 bells its huge, Pete and Julie both wanted to get out to take a few pics so we pulled into a side street and stopped even though you weren’t meant to luckily Pete got back quickly and we were looking at the map to see where to go next when the police pulled up and when the...

We finally got a replacement car, a Lynk & Co hybrid, not as big but still we could continue our trip. After settling in we decided it was time to explore Prague as we had so many sites we wanted to see. We were lucky to be staying in the old city Stre Mesto so first stop was old town square which dates back to the 10 th century. The old town hall dates back to 1338 it’s a gothic building and its tower is 66 meters high and provides stunning views of the city, it houses one of the only three remaining astronomical clocks in the world and is the only one still working, every hour between 9am and 11pm the three apostles appear but we didn’t have time to wait had just missed them, also located here is the 14 th century Church of our Lady before Tyn which has 2 80mtr towers along with a great statue and the other beautiful old buildings this was a great place to start exploring. We decided to hop on the little train for a tour of all the city sites as it took you to 4 differen...

Day 30, 20th September Regensberg Germany to Prague (We wish)

After ringing Europecar to see what was happening with the car and they informed us they would ring us back soon, we packed our bags, and went down for breakfast. From then on things just kept getting worse. They didn’t ring back Pete had to ring them again and again without any success. We have or I should say Pete has been on the phone to so many people both here and in Italy all day. They keep either telling you to ring another number which they give you, or they will transfer you or they just hang up. So it’s now nearly 24 hours since this started, we have no car don’t know where it is they keep telling different stories and we have had to book another night here in Regensberg. To say we are extremely angry and dissatisfied would be an understatement. Pete has made more than 50 phone calls and spoken to so many people all without any outcome.

We had a lovely breakfast then loaded our bags into the car and headed to the gondola that takes you up the mountain, it has great views on the way of the Neuschwanstein castle and valley. Was a quick trip and provided amazing views of the valley, castle and also all the towns around it after taking some pics we jumped back in the gondola to get our car and take a few more pics in the town before heading for Regensberg. We booked into a nice hotel just on the edge of the old town and once we had put our bags in the room we were off to explore. It’s a beautiful old town full of so much history, we looked at the 12 th century Stone Bridge that crosses the Rhine, and on the banks next to it Historische Wurstkuche which is a restaurant that has been consistently in operation since 1846AD, it was originally owned by the city but they sold it in 1806 and the descendants of the family who purchased it, still own and run it today. We also went to St Peters Cathedral which opened in 152...
